Hey dolls!
Do any of you out there play Final Fantasy XIV? I've been playing it since the original launch (yes, it was as painful as everyone made it out to be). I've stuck with it because there was so much potential for it and XI had taken a change for the worse.
I'd been playing Xi with a group of friends from my hometown since 2008 but they quickly lost interest in it and all went in different directions MMO-wise. Fortunately, I've been in the same shell for six years and we've all moved over to XIV. That being said, it would be nice to play with some folks that I know outside of the game. Changes the game a tad, in my opinion.

So, who all is out there and what server are you on? My character name is "Lessien Longbreach" and I'm on "Sargatanas".

Your turn!

Anyone play World of Warcraft like I do? On Facebook I like several pages, and one of them is going to have a giveaway. Thought I would share for anyone interested. Hope that's okay.

It's been a long road for feminist critic Anita Sarkeesian. Last summer, she ran a wildly successful Kickstarter campaign to raise funds for a new video series examining sexist tropes in video games—her goal was $6,000 and she raised nearly $160,000. In the midst of the Kickstarter drive, Sarkeesian was subjected to a brutal, organized harassment campaign (someone even made an online game that simulated punching her in the face), all of which drew even more attention to her project.

As Sarkeesian explained to Kotaku, the extra funding gave her the opportunity to increase the scope and scale of the project, but it's also meant a lot more work, and some delays. She's now released the first episode in the series, which takes a look at the "Damsel in Distress" trope. Certainly a prevalent trope, that one.

Sarkeesian has already launched a tumblr to highlight many examples of this particular trope, and this video will take a deeper look. Give it a watch. [SOURCE]

I recently got the RPG Maker VX Ace and am beginning to make my own game, and I'm wondering if anyone else here has done that. If not, have you played any RPG Maker games? Did you like them? I'm rather fond of Deadly Sin 2 and Aveyond, although Aveyond is... not notable for its healthy, loving relationships.

I'm getting the hang of things, and it's great watching it all come together. I'm happy with my purchase, especially since I got it on a Steam sale, but I really don't think its claim that it is "simple enough for a child" holds water (depends on the child, I guess) and it is rather upsetting that the default person graphics are all white except for two in the evil section. It's 2014, guys.

There went my free time.

Anyone else in this community playing Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn? I gotta say I recently obtained an account, and I've been having a blast. My favorite mechanic so far: once you reach level 10 in your first character class and complete a quest, you get to go around and unlock all the other basic classes. And by getting different classes to different levels, you can get even more classes. As in, if I level to 30 as an arcanist (think dots and debuffs) and level 15 as a conjurer (no idea), I can unlock White Mage. I know this isn't anything new for Final Fantasy (hello, 3, X2), but it feels really nice to see it.

I'm at level 14 as an arcanist, and I must say that from what I've seen, there's gender parity. Flip a coin as to weather the next strong character (not questgivers mind, those are still fairly male), but interesting repeating characters ... I've seen just as many females as males. And the females are usually the ones who go out and help you in the field. All the people I've had to rescue from danger so far are dudes, not damsels. :D

It might change as things go along, but for now... this is an mmo that makes my inner feminist happy.

I finished my finals this week and, to my disappointment, completed Far Cry 3. I wasn't sure whether or not to post this here because I don't know how it'll be received but I think it'd be good for discussion.

THE GOOD
- I got this game for $5. Wish I got it for free.
- Ubisoft never disappoints when it comes to scenery, nature, and the animal animations and clippings.
- Gameplay mechanics are wonderful; very much like Assassin's Creed in FPS style. You've got the synchronizing in high places to map out locations, gain more ways to kill/stealth as you progress, do sidequests that don't have anything to do with the main mission, etc.

THE "F**K NO STOP THIS NOW" (TRIGGER WARNING: racism, sexism, rape; CONTAINS SPOILERS)

It's a long list of bad with a bit of profanity so prepare yourselves. If you found this helpful, please rate up on Steam so that it stays visible as it's one of the few honest reviews. Lots of Far Cry 3 stans but I expected it.

I'd love to know who some of your most beloved and respected game reviewers or game channels are. I'm really looking for more players and reviewers who play a wide variety of games, including indie, and aren't sexist boneheads (or at the very least give a decent apology when called out for being one).

My curse client keeps giving me an error message when I try to load it.

"An error has occurred while attempting to load a Microsoft.Net configuration file. This is often an indication of a corrupted .Net installation. We reccomend visiting the Microsoft Download Center to repair your .Net installation. Would you like to go there now?"

The problem is, no matter how many times I try to download the software I'm pointed at to fix the issue... curse client still won't load. Is there a comparable program I can use to keep my WoW mods up to date?
